THE LOOSED BOSS

"I indeed baptize you in (with) water because of repentance [that is, because of your changing your minds for the better, heartily amending your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins]. But He Who is coming after me is MIGHTIER than I, Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to take off or carry; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire."
Matt. 3:11, AMBV, Emphasis Mine

My dear ones, today I want to touch on a topic that is very dear to my heart. This is something that I have been mulling over for quite some time. And this is the attitude of the boss with regards to his subordinates, who perhaps have more talents than him.

When you read the book "The 48 Laws of Power", Robert Greene states unequivocally that, "Never try to outshine your superior". This is a true statement of fact and I totally agree with that. The simply reason for this is that every boss assumes a state of indispensability once he's put on top of other people. Hence the moment a lower rank person tries to prove to him that he's perhaps more smarter than him, then it means that his position is threatened.

But come to think of it in reference to the scripture above. Here was John the Baptist who had taken the lead in the soul winning ministry and was making a name for himself. In fact, his ministry was so big such that it was able to attract all manner of people from Jerusalem, Judea and all the countries around Jordan. This was a mega church John the Baptist was having. He was the star of the moment and perhaps had a booming economic benefits as well. He was enjoying the popularity and the sunshine his ministry was having. Then all of a sudden, Jesus shows up in the scene with another kind of ministry better and bigger than what he, John the Baptist, was doing. While John the Baptist's ministry and anointing could handle only a part of the Middle East, Jesus' ministry targeted the whole world. While Prophet Baptist's ministry brought only repentance to people Messiah Jesus' ministry brought both repentance and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, something that was alien to the people of the day.

In the midst of this great chasm in ministry between John's ministry and that of Jesus, one would have thought that John was going to be intimidated. Rather, he used his platform to promote the ministry of Jesus.

How I wish many bosses would learn this lesson from John the Baptist. But you, this attitude is only possible when you're a loosed boss. A loosed boss is not afraid to lose his position to his subordinate. A loosed boss is not afraid to recommend his subordinate for a higher calling than his. A loosed boss doesn't display the attitude of indispensability. A loosed boss doesn't only look out for his interest only. A loosed boss is not high-mindedness. A loosed boss is not vindictive in his actions. A loosed boss brings his subordinates to his level of knowledge without being afraid of disloyalty. A loosed boss doesn't lord his boss-ship over his subordinates. A loosed boss has a servant heart attitude.

My prayer is that as we all strive to be bosses in various aspects of our Father's vineyard, we would remember that we have only one Boss in heaven, who will judge all that we do as we occupy our boss positions here on earth. May his grace cause us to function well and be loosed bosses to serve our generation and the next. Shalom!
